I Love Money!

Just created a new unit on money!  I created some games and worksheets to help my students build their coin fluency.  It works well with any unit on money!

There are puzzles:

Flash cards/Memory match:

Posters:

And much more!

Check it out at my:

Also, I have a question.  I just watched Charity Preston's Mini-Video course on TpT and I learned so much about the Seller's Forum.  However, I can't get to it!  Every time I click the link for the Seller's Forum, it brings me to the TpT homepage or to a TpT search for products about forums.  Umm...what?  How do I get to it?!?

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Joining the linky party over at Kindergarten Lifestyle to bring you my favorite all-time kids quote:

Apparently one of my little girls cornered one of my boys in the hallway and planted a kiss on him.  The poor thing was petrified and a tiny bit confused.  He wasn't quite sure what to do.  And let's just say there was quite a parent meeting that followed!

On another note, I had work on Tues, Weds and Thurs this week (while everyone else had the whole week off).  All three days were beautiful - 50 degrees and sunny.  I did have today off and was looking forward to it.  And then...dun dun dun...I was not only woken up early by a loud noise but I soon discovered that the loud noise was a snow plow!  Apparently it snowed slash rained over night.  So today was a cold, dreary, wet day :(  Such is New England weather, I guess.

It in the Cards

I wanted to add on to my Fluency packet last night and instead ended up creating a 36-page set of long and short vowel sorts!  It was a bit much to add onto my Fluency packet so I created The Long and Short of It.  It comes with flash cards, headings for sorting and recording sheets for the students to use.

Get it from my {Tpt Store}
Get it from my {Teacher's Notebook Store}

Here's a sample of my Sight Word Flash Cards too:

Get it from my {Tpt Store}
Get it from my {Teacher's Notebook Store}

I got the cute clipart for both from Graphics from the Pond and KPM Doodles!

And I got these cool fluency phrases from Abby over at Ms. Alley's 2nd Grade Class.

So my dilemma was how to store all my adorable new flash cards??  I want to be able to access them quickly during my guided reading groups.  I found these cute mini portfolios and bucket from Target.  The accordion files fit perfectly in the buckets.  And they're bright colors!

I cut out the "files" from one of them and it is just like a large, durable envelope.

I kept the files in this one to separate my vowel cards.

I LOVE them!  And there's a little extra room for cards that aren't in a portfolio:

All About My State Freebie

In my class, we have been doing the Flat Stanley project.  Learn about it {here}.  We also got some Flat Stanleys sent to us as well!  I really wanted to help my students learn about their state through this process. So this week, since we only have 3 days of school, I thought we would do a mini-unit on our little state, Rhode Island.  To help my students keep track of their research, I created a worksheet for them to record the information they find.  I'm sharing it as a freebie!  Click the picture to get it.

Then, I thought it would be fun to put all our information into a booklet that they could keep.  We'll send some with our Flat Stanleys too.

Check it out in my {TpT store} and my {Teachers Notebook Store}.

Oh, and speaking of my state, all of RI is on vacation this week except my district.  I'm not bitter or anything.

I'm On Vacation!!

Oh wait...no I'm not.  I'm supposed to be on our week-long winter break but our district cancelled it this year.  We lost 3 days due to Hurricane Irene in September so they took it out of our February vacation instead of tacking it onto the end of the year.  It made sense in September, since last year we had 5 snow days.   This year?  We've had NONE.  I could sooo use the break and so could my kids.  They're driving each other craaazzyy and everyone is sick.   We get Monday and Friday off instead.  It's nice that we have two long weekends in a row, but what do I do with a 3 - day week??

Here are some examples of why we need a break:

"Help!  I'm trapped in my chair!"
(yep, yep he was)

"There's a pool in my backpack!"
(her entire water bottle spilled, right at dismissal)

"Don't walk, run to the nurse!"
(blood was pouring out of his nose)

"Did you spill water on yourself?"
(Nope.  It was his second accident in less than an hour)

It's been one of those weeks!

How I Met My Hunny

Okay, I'm a little lot late to this party, but I'm linking up with Chrissy over at Buzzing with Ms. B for How'd You Meet Your Hunny.

Please note: The hubs has MUCH older siblings and I have very young parents.  The hubs and I are the same age.

Here's the story:

I was a junior in high school and my aunt was pretty good friends with his older sister.  They decided that we would be good for each other and wanted to hook us up.  My cousin and his nephew were also best friends at the time and were so excited that they might be related soon (they were 6 years old)!  But...hold up...he had a girlfriend.  Guess that plan is out the window.

Fast forward 3 years.  Apparently we met at a walk to benefit ALS.  Neither of us remember this.  And he had a girlfriend at this time too.  Again, plan is out the window.

Fast forward another 2 years (this is going somewhere, I promise).  We meet again at another ALS walk.  He comes up to me and starts telling me a story about how some random 3-year old girl woke him up that morning.  That was about the extent of our conversation.  My family followed me around the rest of the day calling me by his last name.  They though they were sooo funny.  I was slightly very embarrassed.

My aunt emailed me a few days later to tell me that he was interested in me.  ME?!?  Sure, you can give him my number.  A week and a half goes by.  I had just about given up on him when he called me that Sunday evening.  I was a little nervous, I'm not a phone talker.  At all.  My mom is the only one who gets to talk to me longer than 3 minutes on the phone, mainly because she doesn't stop talking.

Well, we talked for 7 and half hours!  We were both sitting next to the wall by the end because we had to plug our cell phones in.  He asked me out and we went on our first date the following Sunday.  He showed up with a dozen roses and took me to a really fancy restaurant.  We talked the whole time, like we had known each other for years.

And, 6 years later he asked me to marry him.  This was our first Valentine's Day as a married couple!  I love him more than I thought was possible.  We just work together, ya know?

The year we started dating:

We love going to sport events together:

We love being goofy:

 And we love each other!

So that's it!  Now I get to keep him for life - yay!

Freebies and a Giveaway!

Aren't those just the two best words in blogland?!?  I had a not so great day, so I'm cheering myself up by helping you!

I created two freebies to share with you.  There's a story behind them, but let's just say they aren't good stories.

A Reading Response Log:

I am going to start using this for my kids' nightly reading homework.  Right now, they just have to write the book title and how many minutes they read (a minimum of 15).  They are going to be in for a surprise on Monday when they get homework that's more challenging!

And an "I forgot my homework" slip to send home to parents when a student forgets their homework.

I used the wonderful clipart from Graphics by the Pond!  I hope these are helpful to you.  If you do use them, I love getting ratings/comments over on TpT.  **wink wink**   Just click the pictures to get your freebies.

Giveaway Time!
I'm teaming up with Karyn over at A is for Apple, B is for Blog for a ...wait for it...31 giveaway!!  I am super excited because I know how much you all LOVE 31!  Here is what you will win:

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm not a huge Valentine's Day fan, I admit it.  However, my mind is open to change.  Here are a few things that may have helped:

These beautiful flowers arrived in my classroom this morning at the same exact time as my {very excited} students.  Talk about crazy!  Love my husband!  They totally made my day.  Although, the car ride home was interesting.  Keeping those things from tipping over for 45 minutes was a challenge, let me tell you.

And then I opened my Valentine Exchange present!

I was so, so, so excited!!!  I've wanted one of these cups for the longest time!  Thank you so much Tera!  And I love me some Coldstone...that giftcard will be put to good use!

I'm sad though.  The straw broke during shipping :(  Does anyone know if the companies that make these will send me just the straw??  I want to use it (and show it off) so bad!  I know there are quite a few sellers on Etsy that make these and I'm not sure which one mine came from.

In other good news, we got our state test scores back from October.  My kids don't take it until they are in third grade, so I checked to see how my last year's kiddos did.  And O. M. G. they did AWESOME!! I was so happy and proud of them.  It was one of those {very} rewarding teacher moments for sure.

And since it is also Time-Out Tuesday, I'll leave you with this tidbit:

Duh, Mrs. Soucy, how else?

An Ocean of Fun!

I think I might be ready for summer.  I just created a set of Sight Word Flash Cards with the cutest ocean theme!

Some of my students are still struggling with their basic sight words so I created these cards to help them out.  I am going to use them with one of my Guided Reading groups  and I'll also send some home with students on a word ring for them to practice.  I will probably also use some of them as centers for my spelling groups as well.  So many ideas, so little time!  Click here or on the picture below to check them out:

The clipart for this 74 page packet is courtesy of the wonderful KPM Doodles!

And go check out my latest post on The Best Endings! (it also has a beach theme)

31 Anyone? And a Freebie!

I love bags.  Bags of all kinds.  I don't like shoes, clothes, etc.  I like bags.  My husband thinks I'm crazy.  I am also very, very picky about the ones I get and have to make sure it's exactly the one I want.  This leads me to my point.

I have some questions about the Thirty-One bags that everyone loves.  I really want one!  I have all the information to have a party, which I'm going to do...someday.  I need to wait until I move into my house (who knows when that will be) because I just can't fit more than 5 people in my apartment.  However, I really want the Cindy tote.  Like, right now.  The teacher bag I have right now is just too big.  I don't really need all that space and between carrying that and my gym bag, I feel like I'm going on vaca every time I leave the house (and it's an awful big disappointment when I arrive at work and not at a nice beach somewhere)

Is there a way I can purchase one?
Do you know anyone who sells them?
How long does it take to get it?
Does anyone have this tote and recommend it?

And here's my Friday Freebie!  A word search for Valentine's Day.  This is part of my Be Mine, Valentine! unit.  Click on the picture to get the word search for free!

Can you use it?

...because I can't :(  I was so excited to create my Superbowl packet to use with my students tomorrow.  But now I'm sick and not going to work.  I decided not to leave it for my sub because I thought it would be easier for my kids to stick to their normal routine when I'm not there.  Maybe if the Pats win, we can use some of it on Monday.  Maybe.

Just click the picture to grab it.

Luckily, I only have a bad sinus infection.  I sent home two pukers before 9:00 this morning (we start school at 8:45).  And, ohhh they got it all over my brand new puzzle piece mat.  Not a good way to start the day.  Thankfully they didn't get it all over any of their friends (or me)!  I only washed my hands about a gazillion times today.  Hopefully things are healthier in your neck of the woods!
