The goal is to have students use this strategy when answering a constructed response question.
Today, I asked the students, what is your favorite season? Here is our practice response:
Notice the colors? They correspond to each part of RAiSE:
We have the students go back and underline each part of their response with the corresponding color. This way they take ownership of their writing and make sure that they used each part.
They did a really good job with it today!
And for today's laugh of the day...
I have a pretty large room, so during Reader's Workshop I let the students choose any spot around the room to read...
...and this is where I find ALL of them:
Yep, squished on that small area. Cracks me up.

We just started a writing program called CoreConnections and it's very structured like RAiSE. I don't about you- my littles really struggle with writing. These ideas make it really concrete for them! Love it! Thanks for sharing and congrats on winning the decor contest :)

RAiSE sounds really intriguing. I bet you get great results. The example you posted is fantastic! Too funny about where all the kids congregated. I get that a lot, too. I guess they just love each other!

This will be perfect for my students...they struggle with exactly HOW to answer those kind of questions. Not for long...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is also very similar to Step Up to Writing, with my first graders focusing on using 2 colors, green and yellow. The green is for the topic sentence and conclusion, and the yellow is for the 3 details. I like how you are using an acronym. I may incorporate this into my writing next year with the same class in 2nd grade! Thanks for the idea!
