The end of April is also coming, which means May and Mother's Day is right around the corner! I got a jump on things and created some Mother's Day templates for you to use in your classroom. You can integrate Poetry Month and Mother's Day.
In the pack, I made sure to include not only mothers, but grandmothers and aunts as well.
There are pages for your students to draw pictures of a special woman in their life.
They can create lists of words to describe their mom, aunt or grandma.
Acrostic poems are definitely my favorite!

We love Poem in Your Pocket day! We actually move it to a different day in May when most of our assessments are done and we are still trying to keep everybody engaged. The students write various poems throughout a week or two. Then they choose their favorite to publish on tiny papers (about an eighth of a sheet of paper). We give the students tiny books that fit in their pockets to collect poems. Then we practice reading poems. They read and trade with one person in our class. We also travel to the other second grade rooms to read and trade. They even go out to share poems with other classes/staff. So if anyone missed Poem in your Pocket day, it's not too late to share some poetry! :)
